“If you want to say I slept in the same house with a dead body, OK, fine, I’ll buy that - but in the same room, no! And besides, the dead won’t bother you - it’s the living you’ve got to worry about!”
-John Wayne Gacy.
“Our primary interest is what you’ve got between your legs. You’ll be raped thoroughly and repeatedly in every hole you’ve got, because basically, you’ve been snatched and brought here for us to train and use as a sex slave.”
Vernon Geberth, America’s top homicide cop - he has been involved in over eight thousand wrongful death investigations - believes that David Parker Ray was the most vicious serial killer he has ever encountered. “Clinically, I would describe him as the ultimate psychopathic sadist. Investigatively, I would define him as a human predator. Spiritually, I would describe him as the Devil-on-Earth.” Ray, his wife, Hendy, their daughter, Glenda Jesse, and a friend named Roy Yacy, participated in the abduction of women, usually prostitutes or runaways, from the streets of New Mexico towns. They would then take them to Ray’s compound and inside the windowless trailer called the “Toy Box,” where Ray and the others would strip them nude, tie them in obscene positions in a gynecologist’s chair, and then torture them by administering electric current, inserting an assortment of large and odd-shaped dildos into their bodies, slicing them with razors and knives, and sexually assaulting them with homemade torture devices. The pain the women endured and their cries and screams provided David Parker Ray sexual stimulation. When the women were all used up, as it were, Ray would kill them, often by strangulation, and dump their bodies (he likely killed thirty or more) in a twenty-five-mile lake he had access to. To make sure they bodies wouldn’t surface, he would first gut them and pack stones inside. Ray also suffered from logorrhoea, meaning he wrote about his experiences extensively. At one point, Ray began reading his captives the riot act on what was going to happen to them. The speech was part of the torture he administered and was used to break them down emotionally so that they would obey his every wish and command. Following is excerpts from the tape which the FBI found and transcribed:
“Hello there, bitch. You’re chained, handcuffed, scared, and disoriented. Listen to this tape. It was created July 23, 1993, as an advisory for female captives based on my several years of experience. You are here against your will. You probably think you are going to be raped. You’re right about that - you will be raped thoroughly and repeatedly… My female companion and I are very selective. We’ll snatch up anything clean, young, and well built. We’re basically like predators. We’re always looking. I don’t want to kill unless it’s absolutely necessary. If I killed every victim I ever kidnapped, there’d be bodies all over the country”
Ed Geins House
There was no electricity in the dark house so the police officers conducted their inspection with oil lamps, lanterns, and flashlights. The place looked like it had not been clean or tidied in years, there were piles of rubbish everywhere. The few rooms that weren’t nailed off were littered with books, old papers, magazines, utensils, tin cans, cartons and a lot of other junk. What those police officers also found in that house is in the extreme. In the house they found - two shin bones, four human noses, a quart can converted into a tom-tom by skin stretched over both top and bottom, a bowl made from the inverted half of a human skull, nine ‘death masks’ (from the well preserved skin from the faces of women), ten female heads with the tops sawn off above the eyebrows, bracelets of human skin, a purse made with a handle of human skin, sheath for a knife made in human skin, a pair of leggings made from human skin, four chairs with the seats being replaced by strips of human skin, a shoe box containing nine salted vulvas of which his mothers was painted silver, a hanging human head, a lampshade covered with human skin, a shirt made of human skin, a number of shrunken heads (Ed always joked that he had a collection of shrunken heads), two skulls for Gein’s bedposts, a pair of human lips hanging from string, Ed’s full woman body suit constructed with human skin and complete with mask and breasts, Bernice Worden’s heart in a pan on the stove, and the refrigerator which was stacked with human organs. The bodies of 15 different women had been mutilated to provide Gein’s trophies. It is also said that sometimes Gein brought house gifts of fresh venison to his neighbours although Gein said he had never shot a deer in his life.
Team Killers
These comprise any other coupling that does not have a foundation in sex. Killer cousins are represented by “Hillside Stranglers” Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, and David Gore and Fred Waterfield of Florida. An interesting variation was shown by brothers Ralph and Tommy Searl who killed independently of each other at the same time and in the same area - Kalamazoo, Michigan - from different motives. Another variant is embodied in the activities of William Burke and William Hare, the Scottish body-snatchers. Although Burke and Hare are most frequently viewed as a partnership based on mutual greed and degeneracy, the menage was further embellished by their reliance upon the cooperation and active support of their common-law wives in luring victims to the squalid lodging-house in which they were to meet their death. Not surprisingly these lackluster characters, when they were finally arrested, fell in a frantic rush to blame each other, resulting in Hare turning King’s evidence against his former partner who was subsequently hanged from the gallows.

The aftermath of Jeffrey Dahmer’s death
- Upon learning of his death, Dahmer’s mother, Joyce Flint, responded angrily to the media, “Now is everybody happy? Now that he’s bludgeoned to death, is that good enough for everyone?” The response of the families of Dahmer’s victims were mixed, although it appears most were pleased with his death. The District Attorney who prosecuted Dahmer cautioned against turning Scarver into a folk hero, noting that Dahmer’s death was still murder.
- After the murders, the Oxford Apartments at 924 North 25th Street were demolished; the site is now a vacant lot. Plans to convert the site into a memorial garden failed to materialize.
- In 1994, Lionel Dahmer published a book, A Father’s Story, and donated a portion of the proceeds from his book to the victims and their families. Most of the families showed support for Lionel Dahmer and his wife, Shari. He has retired from his career as an analytical chemist and resides with his wife in Medina County, Ohio. Lionel Dahmer is an advocate for creationism, and his wife was a member of the board of the Medina County Ohio Horseman’s Council. Both continue to carry the name Dahmer and say they love Jeffrey despite his crimes. Lionel Dahmer’s first wife, Joyce (Flint), died of cancer in 2000 at the age of 64. She was later buried in Atlanta, Georgia. Dahmer’s younger brother David changed his last name and lives in anonymity.
- Dahmer’s estate was awarded to the families of 11 of his victims who had sued for damages. In 1996, Thomas Jacobson, a lawyer representing eight of the families, announced a planned auction of Dahmer’s estate to raise up to $1 million, sparking controversy. A civic group, Milwaukee Civic Pride, was quickly established in an effort to raise the funds to purchase and destroy Dahmer’s possessions. The group pledged $407,225, including a $100,000 gift by Milwaukee real estate developer Joseph Zilber, for purchase of Dahmer’s estate; five of the eight families represented by Jacobson agreed to the terms, and Dahmer’s possessions were destroyed.
- In January 2007, evidence surfaced potentially linking Dahmer to Adam Walsh’s 1981 abduction and murder in Florida. However, Adam’s father, John Walsh, believed that another serial killer, Ottis Toole, committed the crime. When interviewed about Adam Walsh in the early 1990s, Dahmer repeatedly denied involvement in the crime. In 2008, Florida police declared the Walsh case closed, naming Toole, who died in prison in 1996, as the killer.
Dennis Andrew Nilsen (born November 23, 1945) is a Scottish serial killer who lived in London. During a murderous spree lasting five years, he killed at least 15 men. Nilsen did not fit the standard profile of a serial killer. As a child he was repulsed by cruelty to animals. As an adult he worked to help the downtrodden at his job with the Manpower Service Commission. Even in his murders, Nilsen killed out of a grotesque form of love. He “killed for company.” Nilsen was a homosexual and experienced a series of failed relationships. In 1978, he picked up a boy in a pub and brought him back to his London apartment. Afraid the boy would leave him in the morning, Nilsen killed him in his sleep. He kept the body around his apartment for days, posing it bathing, eating dinner, watching T.V., sleeping in bed, and in other activities as though it was his boyfriend. This pattern continued, with Nilsen recruiting “companions” at local pubs, until a plumber found bones and rotten flesh in the apartment’s sewer system. Nilsen was sentenced to life in prison in 1983 after confessing to fifteen murders.
